Existing home NatHERS ratings
A star rating for a home that already stands — so you know how it performs and which upgrades are worth doing.
How your home really performs
An existing home NatHERS assessment rates the thermal performance of your current home from a site visit and/or plans. It’s useful before a renovation, when planning upgrades, or when buying or selling.
- Accredited existing-home NatHERS rating
- Plain-English notes on where the home loses and gains heat
- Upgrade priorities you can share with your designer or trades
- Optional blower door test to find draughts
- For new builds and major alterations, see As-Built Verification in the Verified package
Common questions
Is this the same as a 7-star certificate for a new home?
No. Existing home ratings are for homes that already exist. New homes and many alterations use the standard NatHERS and Whole of Home pathway for a building permit — see our 7-Star NatHERS page.
Do Victorian rentals need a NatHERS rating?
The Victorian rental minimum standards are features-based, not a NatHERS certificate requirement. An existing home rating can still help plan upgrades — see our rental energy efficiency page.
Can you combine a rating with a blower door test?
Yes. A blower door test with thermal imaging shows where draughts are, so you can fix the most important leaks first. On new homes and major alterations, airtightness also sits inside As-Built Verification in the Verified package — checking glazing, insulation, services and the envelope against the modelled specification.
